We feel very fortunate and blessed to have been a part of the coolest party EVER. Erin's birthday party was so hip it had to be webcast. Besides Labrador Dali, entertainment was provided by Cracker and Gigglejuice, lots of good friends, food and drink. folks came from all 'round the country for this one, and no one left dissapointed...

The New Site

First time this one has been played. 'Along for the Ride' performed by Labrador Dali on May 13th, 2009 at Avenue N Guitars in Chicago. This was part of a showcase presented by Michael Teach for the Chicago Acoustic Underground. This video captured by Amyth (Amy Dote). We Are Back! Headling the Red Line Tap on April 22nd

Hello Labradorians!

Its been a while, but I am excited to announce that we are back, and this summer is gearing up to be better and busier than last!...

On April 22nd 2009, Wednesday, we will be at the Red Line Tap in Rogers Park. This is our first show since early January, and we are headlining! So expect us to take stage sometime after 11:00. Hope to see you all there, The Red Line Tap is one of my favorite places to play- located in near-mythical Rogers Park, Chicago. It is at 7006 N Glenwood, which is just a few doors north of the Heartland Cafe- with a parking lot about 1/2 a block north and easy access from the El.

The recording sessions for the new disc are coming along very well, the hardest part is finding time. We have backing tracks for seven songs down, and a list with about seven or eight more to be recorded. It is a pretty good mix of songs we've been playing live for a while as well as some brand spanking new stuff. I am excited about how it is sounding, and cant wait to share some of it once it is in a share-able state.

Things are going to pick up again in May. We will be playing an acoustic showcase for the Chicago Acoustic Underground at Avenue N Guitars on North Avenue on the 13th. And we have a private party to attend down in Troy, Il where we will have the honor of opening for one of our main influences and playing with some of our best friends. Sorry, that is as specific as I can be right now.

But look for more May shows to be added, and look for the rest of the summer to fill up. We hope to see you this summer, bring out your dancing shoe.

On the Exterior, the first annual Squirrel Appreciation Day hosted by members of Labrador Dali, went off without a hitch. A small congregation gathered and drank and mingled, and at the appropriate hour they all marched single-file outside for the ceremonial throwing of hot dogs into the snow.

As a good dozen or twenty onlookers looked on, a kazoo was tortured and uncooked sausages were lobbed into the air, only to fall back and penetrate the fresh snow, as accorded by second verse of 'The Trudge', and also in hopes that on Groundhogs day, the groundhog will come out of hiding and find the hot dogs and forget altogether which way his damn shadow is facing.

Behind the scenes, though, things were not as prosaic as they seemed. Singer/ song-writer Robert Emmett showed up to the event with a freshly shaved head. It is unclear at this time whether it was intentionally shaved, or whether it was a mishap with a microwave oven or something to that extent.

One thing was clear though, popular to contrary opinion, short-hairs cant rock.

Led by Lem Roby (lead guitar, long-hair), along with classical guitarist and local miscreant Marcus Dunleavy (long-hair) the band passed a unanimous 'no confidence' vote over a few pitchers of something cheap and off- yellow. Puce, i think they call it.

The band and their rogue legal team are now examining the wording and fine print of the Band Charter to see if it is possible to fire Rob without forcing everyone else to quit.

The cutting of Robs hair drastically affects the bands long-hair ratio, leaving it presently at 3/5. Besides Roby, Marke Lester (drums) and Ruby Harris (violin) are the remaining long-hairs of the group, although some have accused Ruby of wearing a wig.

Rob is quoted as mumbling something about damn hippies, and Gus Kenneth (bass player, short-hair) said he is 'happy about the new hair, maybe now Rob will play his strat more punk!'.

Further developments on this story will be posted the nano-second they become available...

Red Line Tap, Friday, January 9th!!!

Our most recent outing, the O'Leary's Pub show from this past Saturday, was the first show for our new bass player Gus Kenneth; welcome Gus! It was also our first show since July with violin/mandolin mad-man Ruby Harris. It felt great to have too many people to fit on one stage again.
This is the third song from the set, Shine, which clocks in at just under nine minutes. The song just sort of took over, we were not in control, we were just trying to hang on after a while, like the freight train attempting to parallel park.
This version is replete with a Roby/Ruby duel that acts as this songs gooey center.

Dali/Day in the Desert

On September 13, 2008 members of DayDrug and Labrador Dali gathered together for an informal jam in front of a few friends. Taped by Big Dave live in Pioneertown, California, with (from left to right) John Higgins on flute, Marke Lester on bass, Robert Emmett on guitar, Kevin Day on guitar and Chill-I on bongos.

Early in September a few of us went out to California for the 4th annual Cracker/ Camper Van Beethoven Campout. Thanks to everyone who supported us in an attempt to get a proper slot in the line-up, unfortunately that didn't happen this year. We were able to conjure up a little jam, though, and luckily a little bit of it was captured. It was a very informal gathering between Labrador Dali and DayDrug infront of a small group of fans and friends, we played a couple of ours, a couple of theirs and a couple Cracker/Camper songs. This is something we had been talking about in both camps (no pun intended, well... maybe) for a long time and we were very pleased to finally pull it off! You will remember from your training that Kevin Day originally wrote 6299 which we covered on Exile on Myspace...

A Year of the Dog

I have just posted sixteen live songs to our reverbnation/myspace music player, these are 'fan exclusive' so you will need to sign up to hear and/or download them. The songs are on the player directly after the 'Exile on Myspace' tracks...

The tracks span a full year of Dog Music, from August of 2007 to July 2008. I will be adding more in the near future...

The idea was a sort of retrospective/celebration of this milestone we are approaching, I am thinking of maybe making it into a little cd to hand out at shows or something to that effect. We will see...

It was at the Heartland Cafe on August 24th, 2007- the first night Lem played with us, and also the first night I introduced the band (at the time, mostly as a joke) as Labrador Dali. It has been a weird and fabulous year. Hope you enjoy the tunes, and look forward to bigger and better in the very near future...
